How do these subs compare?

Question

I am about to purchase two 12" Hifonics subs with 300 RMS. I used to have two 12" sony explodes with 380 RMS. The guy claims the hifonics hit harder even though the RMS is lower. I know RMS doesnt matter sometimes depending on the brand but I have never heard of Hifonics.

The sonys were in a sealed box and the hifonics are gunna be in a ported box. But dont take this into concideration. I want to know what will hit harder given the same situation (box, amp, ect).

The best thing to do when in this situation is always build before you buy.  Don't take some guys word that one sub will have greater output then another before a new box is built.  A sheet of 3/4" MDF is cheaper then dropping money on new sub woofers.

sounds to me like the guy is just blowin smoke up your butt to make a sale i myself dont like sony im a kicker person myself but i would stick with the sony my experience with car audio if its some weird name you never heard of it isnt worth much so do what you think is right! . . . . . hope i could help

Primarily if the box is ported, and designed right, the ported box normally will give you approx 3 to 5 db gain at 40 to 60 hz  Again if this enclosure has been designed properly!!!

Find someone with an enclosure desigm program and they can show you what the box will do in comparison to the sony woofers
