I would say different people for different reasons. In other words i have heard reports of some who were actually mentally retarded (which is so sad, strapping a bomb to someone who has no understanding)

It seems like most though buy into the concept that they are defending their religion. They are brainwashed through religion and believe that they are sacrificing themselves for God (Allah or whatever you want to call him).

You really have to be brainwashed by something special as religion to do something like this.

The same way anyone gets people to fight for a cause, they appeal to patriotism, love of country, defending their homes, etc.  The USA president got hundreds of thousands of people to travel to the other side of the planet to invade and occupy a country that was no threat to the USA, how did he motivate them to do that? its the relgion. Some suicide bombers can be clever and well respected people in our own society. The suicide bombers that are muslim believe so strongly in allah and that suicide will bring them great honour that they will gladly do it for what they believe. also muslim men (if they are good) are promised 40 virgins when they get to heaven. I don't know why people keep on referring to the virgin thing. Remember the Alamo? You don't have to be in the army to die for your country. You'd die to save your people and you're country's honour. You wouldn't do it just because some idiot is spouting nonsense about getting 72 virgins!

I know s*x is an incentive but no one would die in the hopes of getting a virgin when you can do that while you're living. Come on people, stop repeating what other people have said and have some original thoughts here!

I think they get people to do it if they can really motivate the person. For example if you're a 18 year old guy who's pissed off with Israel and someone said to you "If you take this bom you would save your people and destory the invaders." You would probably do it since all your life you've been brought up in a war-torn country.
