  2. If I understand the question correctly, you're asking about the *extraction* process of diamonds from mined rock??

    So, after blasting and scooping up the rock from a diamond mine, the rock is sent to a crusher - which makes small rocks out of big ones.  The rock is the run through several conveyor belts which utilize x-ray banks.  The diamonds are very easily identified by the x-ray, and then taken out from the rest of the waste rock.

    As a side-note, most modern diamond mines also use x-rays to check to see if their employees are stealing diamonds...you get zapped on the way out of project in a doorway portal that looks very similar to the metal detector portals you'll find at airports...
