  1. They go through the alphabet in order everytime a hurricane comes....thats how they get the first letter of the name. after that, the name can be just random.

  2. http://www.fema.gov/kids/hunames.htm

    http://www.hurricaneville.com/names.html

  3. when the hurricane season starts they name the first one with A. then B and C and so on so forth. if there alot of hurricanes that year they will start over with A

  4. they follow the alphabet, and just give it random names from the corresponding letter

  5. I am not sure how many sets of names they have... 2,3, 5, 7.... whatever.... but they rotate from year to year.

The National Weather Service are the ones who came up with the names.

  6. no, it's not silly.  they have a system based on type of storm and time of year.

  7. Each tropical depression is given a name as soon as it starts to show circulation and become a tropical storm. This name is determined alphabetically. The first name would be something like Alfred or Andrew, although Adolf strangely isn't too popular. The list of names varies from year to year but just must contain however many storms appear. They have had to start recycling names since the system was started by NOAA. Frankly, I think it is pretty stupid. I wouldn't mind if the news just said, "There's a f***ing huge hurricane coming to your city, so get your **** together, so you all don't die." That might get more attention.
