The WGC Championship from Doral was suspended last night due to rain and the darkness. It was suspended again today because of rain.

How do they determine that a player who is in the fairway, in the rough or on the green is placing his ball in exactly the same place when play resumes?

  1. In the top ranks there are some many cameras and 'bird watchers',that there is ample evidence of the ball being placed correctly. I am not joking when I say that there are viewers that commit a lot of time to making sure players are playing by the rules. Only in America. They tournament organisers also have someone go out and photograph the position of the players ball if play is to be suspended to ensure correct placement. Sorry, that I am joking about.

  2. They place two tees behind the ball and when they  return they place the ball between the two tees. However, they are playing pick, clean and place because of the soft fairways so the term "exact" doesn't really have much meaning.

The only people that are on the course if play is suspended over night would be the grounds crew and they would be cautious of the ball markings.

Wrong.   In lift clean and place, you are allowed to place the ball with  in 6'' of your marker but  not neare the hole.
