The clock is electronically linked to the starters signal. It is also linked to touch pads on the end walls. Human timers and place judges back up the electronics as well.

Touch pads are used on the walls at both ends of the pool. By touching the walls the athlete signals/stops the clock.

The starters signal/beeper starts the clock by touching the button on the starters microphone.
