How do they determine where you pick in fantasy football draft

They randomly pick every spot in the draft.

Usually it is a random choice done by the web site.  some leagues if done in person have drawing of cards from one suit to determine spot.

If you mean in a Yahoo or ESPN league, it's just random.  If you are asking how to determine draft order in a "real" league, there are several options.  You could always just write the numbers 1 through (whatever the number of teams in the league) and put them in a hat and draw from there.  Another method is to use playing cards as long as your league has fewer than 14 teams- whoever draws the ace picks first and the queen pick last for a 12 team league.  Last year my money league had 14 teams, so the commissioner found 14 pennies with dates from 1994 to 2007 and we drew those-  1994 drafted first.
