  1. Whenever I've gone to an aquarium, the sharks have been in different tanks from the rest of the fish.  If the sharks aren't eating them, then they are not the kinds of fish that that kind of shark eats---though bear in mind that some of those smaller fish might actually be in with the sharks BECAUSE they are meant to be food.

  2. At aquariums they usually have a diver that goes in and actually makes sure that each shark is feed. This lowers their aggressive feeding behaviors. An aquarium is, or should be, designed to reproduce a natural environment as much as possible i.e. species that usually are found together, temp., salinaty, and types of foods. Believe me when I say that those sharks are eating the fish in their tank, but it probably all goes down at night when no one is there.

  3. i'm sure sharks do eat some of the fish.

unless it's a puffer or a tang or something.

but aquarists maintain the feeding for sharks (so why would they eat fish if they've got a full stomach? well i guess they probably would), and usually fish have enough hiding places in the coral.

  4. Many sharks in captivity are trained to eat dead fish, which are fed to them.

Most often, divers actually enter the tanks to feed the fish.

If you 've ever visited a large aquarium at feeding time, you'll see the divers.  The marine life is kept well fed so they do not become agressive.

You find this to be true in zoos as well.

Baltimore, Maryland has a two story aquarium, just fabulous.

One can see it on either side of the staircase..

Here in Texas, Kemah, a restaurant is surrounded by an aquarium.

  5. If everybody stays well fed, then there is no reason for the sharks to snack on the smaller fish, although they probably do chow down on the little guys from time to time. Just for sport.

Go to an aquarium at feeding time and watch.  They hold large chunks of fish on the ends of sticks and attract the sharks with the movement.  When the shark bites off the food, bits and pieces float away and the smaller fish go after those.
