  1. In real life: For every one person in the US there is 5 guns. And if a crime is completely random it is VERY difficult to solve. Murders go unsolved all the time but we just don't hear about it.

  2. Enough with the movies...they're not real, you know.

In your example, it would be very hard for forensics to find anything, especially if the clothes and weapon were discarded.

Rebeccal is wrong:  the ratio of weapons to people is 9/10.  Nine weapons to every 10 people.

  3. they look at the bullet. stop watching gangster movies. watch mafia movies. gangsters are full of nothing but thinking they are hard cuz they grew up hard and they so hard fo not havin they mommi and daddi round yo when dey was 6 yo. stfu gangsters=retards

    mafia atleast have class

  4. All gun's have a code on them and all are registered to someone so you find the weapon you find the person it's registered to.

Also to find which gun the bullet came from because all barrel's are different they all leave a mark on the bullet. Each barrel leaves the exact same mark on the bullet when it's shot unless the barrel is tampered with. So you find the bullet and you can tell what caliber weapon it came from. You normally find the weapon dumped so you then shoot a bullet through the weapon and check the marking's on the bullet. This is all done in a Forensic Lab and done by a Ballistics's Expert.

Unfortunately it's hard to find who killed by the weapon because barrels often get changed and Code's chiseled off. Unfortunately also it's a very difficult process, like most of Forensic Science, it's nothing like on CSI.

  5. they extract the bullet, find its type, find all the possible guns that can fire that bullet, they ask local gun shops if there were any recent purchases of those types of guns, they ask for the names and adresses of the buyer, the ask if there was any grudge against the murder victim, they study the murder victims neighboorhood  and lifesyle, they look for any deviation in the recent days before the murder, they monitor al possible suspects, they see if the suspects have any sort of social interaction with the murder victim... oh the list goes on

    :)

you aspiring to be a CSI? :P

  6. Maybe no witnesses to the crime ... but the police will still look for video tape (if available it makes a great "silent witness").   They will canvass the area, including setting up a roadblock to ask people in the area if they saw anyone acting suspicious in the area (including someone leaving the area quickly after gunshots are heard).

Even with all of that leg work sometimes the police just can not find any evidence linking anyone to the crime.  Then the perp gets away with it ... unless they are stupid enough to brag about the crime!

I've been through several checkpoints where the officers were just asking if the driver was in the area the previous day ... and if they heard or saw anything that might help.
