How do they know who wins the swimming races in the Olympics?

  1. Yes, there are things called touch pads in the pool. If you look very closely you will notice that there is a pad about a yard long that is raised on the wall. When you hear the starter say take your mark, then beep the clocks will start automatically then when they do a flip turn and hit the pad on the wall after each lap they can get there times, like say it was a 400, they want the time after each 100 so when there feet hit the pad they can see the time. A touch pad when you hit it at the end of the race it stops the clock. They acctually feel really wierd almost like a jelly. Hope I could help.

  3. Yes! There are touch sensitive timing mats on the wall. When the buzzer for the race starts it turns on the mats, which keep time. The mats track how many times you've touched the finishing wall (for example in a 100m swim you only touch the wall once) and will stop after the last touch and record the time.
