How do they process food?

In the Sun today they mention how processed meat is bad for you.

apparently it can lead to colon cancer.

What foods can you eat that are processed?

And what exactly is a processed food?

What do they do to it?especially meat.

  Proccessed meat goes through a factory to make it safe to eat and also add some stuff to taste good. If it weren't proccessed people would be dieing everywhere because of mad cow disease and cancer.

Processed meat such as ham has additives, especially salt and preservatives.  Stuff like burgers and chicken nuggets have all sorts of things done to them, I prefer not to eat them.  Things like crisps and other savoury snacks have a lot of flavour enhancers which make you want more.  Having said that, eating these things occasionally (once every few weeks) does you no harm so long as you regard them as a treat and not a regular part of your diet.  Also, you must remember that a newspaper editor's job is to sell newspapers, they sometimes print sensational articles so that you will buy the paper.

Processed food is either cooked food or raw food with stuff added to it to make it safe to eat and enhance its taste.

Eating raw food would be much more dangerous! (unless it's fruid and veg) Needless to say that eating raw meat is not a good idea.

Oh, and don't believe every word the Sun says. It's a tabloid.

They usually add water to the meat or some sort of additive to make the meat weigh more than it actually does so they can charge more for it.

Processed food usually means any raw food that has had various things added to it to preserve the food to make it last longer or to enhance the colors, flavours etc.

Basically unless the food you buy is organic or isn't in a package i.e. fruit and vegetables then it is probably processed. Tinned food and jars of sauces or frozen foods are almost 99% guaranteed to be processed.
