How do they slit people's throats in theatre?

We're doing Sweeny Todd at my high school. I've seen Sweeny Todd in person before. (gory!) How do they slit people's throats in theatre?

There is a blood pack you can make.

It contains a small plastic bag and blood like fluid.

The actor wears this on the neck..hidden by makeup or some synthetic skin colored covering.  Since it is high school, try hiding this bag under a turtle neck.  Wardrobe is key.

they ussually have special stage razors that can squirt fake blood on the throats or they stand right infront of the victim so the audience cant see and they break open a ketchup packet on their throat i have seen it done both ways

The way we did it was take the fake razor (I think it was rubber) and hollow a thin slit down the blade, then a larger opening along the bottom of the handle. We ran a small tube down the blade in the notch, and attached it to a balloon in the cavity of the handle.  The balloon was then filled with the fake blood. When he held it you couldn't see anything, and he just squeezed against the bottom ( where your fingers grip) as he slid it across their throat.   Basicly the resuld was when he squeezed the handle, blood oozed out the tip, which was against the persons neck, making it look like it came from them.  It took some practice, but in the end it looked rather real.

I saw "Jeckyl and Hyde" last year and the way they did it was really cool.  They had a very long, red ribbon that came out when he "slit" their throats.  So it would look like he cut them and then this red ribbon would unfurl.  Not sure how they did it, but it was very effective.

the knife is hollow with a break away tip.as t he  throat is cut

the handle is squeezed and red die comes out.
