Question:

How do they take your braces off?

I've had my braces nearly two years and I know they're coming off soon and I was wondering how does the orthodontist removed fixed braces? I'm guessing your teeth might hurt for a while after they are removed so how long did your teeth hurt for?

  1. Okay well i just got mine off a week ago and it was amazing! First they get this clip things and just pop the braces off. all you hear is click click click and they're off! Then they get another tool and clean the glue off. You will have to brush your teeth a couple times through the procedure because you might bleed. Depending on how sensitive your mouth is. Then they get the sand blaster and clean off other things. The worst part for me was the last part. They put that sour glue on the back of your bottom teeth and put on the permanent retainer. You have to hold your tongue back and sit there for a couple minutes. Lastly you have to take impressions for you invisible retainer for your top teeth. I don't mind impressions but everyone is different. Then you leave with a perfect smile! your teeth might feel slimy but they wont hurt at all! :)

  2. They used that heat gun thingy (that they used to get the brackets on) but not as long.  Then they used pilers, and then a tooth scraper (it doesnt hurt, but it was uncomfortable to me, the sound was horrible).  And if the glue likes your teeth (like mine, lol) they will use a electic  sander (made for teeth), and sometimes get up to rinse your mouth out with water,  ive noticed the coldness numbed it enough for me not to feel the sander thingy.

I remember getting mine off in decemeber.  When they first got them off and i was sitting in the chair to get the filling stuff for my retainer, it felt really dry or something, brushing didnt help, lol, it just took me alittle time to get used to the cold december air moving through my teeth when i talked.

It didnt hurt like it does to get them on, actually i felt no pain whatsoever!  It just felt amazing to get them off finally!  I hated those things!

Congraduations to getting your braces off!

Maybe try bringing your ipod and hiding the cords under a hoodie and put the ipod in the hoodie pocket. (i do the same thing during school, lol) but it drowns out the sound of the scraper and sander.

  3. With a pair of pliers and then they sand the glue off..

  4. I hear that they burn them off with a blow torch, and if that fails, then they chemical melt it with sulfuric acid.

  5. they take a mallet and brake your jaw then they knock out your teeth. at this point they take your arm and burn it off. they then smash your old teeth and sell them to a vietnamese prostitute. they then take a drill and create a bunch of holes in your teeth. they then shove new fake teeth in  your gums. now theyre gunna remove your eyesand tear up your nose. then you get shipped in a 3x2 inch bpx to china where you get plastic surgery from a dugeon master using an axe. Have fun!

  6. Hello. I am getting mine off either in 2 days or 2 weeks and 2 days. See first of all your last appointment is when they do final aajustments and then 2 weeks later you get them off.

First they remove the wire, then they take off the back brackets that the wire went into (they do this with a pliers) then they'll pull off the other brackets with the pliers. Its pretty painless but you do feel slight pressure... (I had brackets on the front of every tooth and the bottom.) then they'll take a drill type thing and grind off the glue. It doesn't hurt, but the glue smells kinda funky. again there is a little pressure.they have you brush your teeth. It will feel really weird once they are removed. I had problems talking for a minute because my mouth felt weird. They do take impressions for a retainer and you stay there that day for the retainer. your teeth dont really hurt, they just feel really slimy and like air is flying thru them.  Your teeth might hurt ofr like 30 min tops.

Total it took about 2 hours, mostly its time consuming sitting there while they remove the glue.

Hope this helps ya! Good luck! :D Congrats on getting them removed!

  7. It's been about 10 years since I had mine off, so things might be a little different now. But when they took mine off they used these special pliers that pull each brace off individually. After that they use a scraper to get off the excess cement left on your teeth.

As uncomfortable as it sounds, it actually wasn't all that painful. Just a little pushing and pulling on your teeth. And my teeth didn't hurt that much either. I just remember being amazed at how smooth they felt. I kept rubbing my tongue over them because it felt so weird.
