I use the NYC subways everyday. Just curious. What happens when a train conductor needs to use a restroom while working?

  1. please remember that the conductors DO NOT DRIVE THE TRAIN they take tickets its the engineer that drives the

    train! get it right now!

I m tried of hearing Media reports the conductor couldn't stop

    the train in time!

  2. when i worked on the railroad,it was off of the side or in the bushes. They gave toilet paper out in crew packs!....that was in 1996......man those were the days  lol

  3. There are staff restrooms and often small staff lounges at the end points of the various routes.  Some major terminal stations also have locker rooms, etc.

The conductor needs to hold him/her self until the end of the line.  There's always a break before they need to go out again.

  4. Whether he be an engineer or pilot, this is a very interesting question.  I suppose they could put the train or plane in to auto-pilot, though I have never seen a pilot come into the cabin to the bathroom, and I don't think they have a john in the cockpit. They probably have been trained to fly extended amounts of time without (we recently flew with only one flight attendant and she never.....Or they might have worn adult diapers like that astronaut did??

  5. They go the normal way, take it out and . . . . . . .

there is a small toilet compartment in a locomotive, similar to what camp trailers or motorhomes have.

  6. Duh ...depends if the conductor is male or female...male he points and shoots...female squats and you know!

  7. The driver relieves thereself in the window screen wash bottle if they are busting, but thats not in all train driving cabs there in trains like 455 456 so make sure its full off screen wash so they can' go in it.

  8. they have to wait till their designated rest break, just like the drivers do

  9. They don't.  Conductors relieving themselves is an urban myth...

    Right on mega.bus!

But, engineers don't "drive" the train on this side of the pond, "train driver" being a British term.  Here in the US, it is properly said that engineers "run" the train or engine.

  10. That would require them to wake up first! The rest would be easy lol.

And yes ty Mega the engineer runs the train

  11. Not sure unless he just waits til the train stops!! LOL Here's a star for interesting..
