How do train reservations work?

I don't get the reservation stuff

  1. It's fairly simple, assuming you are trying to book with Amtrak.

    You first choose where you are going, and from where. The web site will then give you available options and schedules. Choose the one that best suits your needs. Then you will have the option to upgrade to sleeper/business class. You can either upgrade or continue as coach class. It will then ask you if you have any discounts(AAA, AARP, Gov't, etc.) then it will go to the payment screen and thats about it.


  2. You nailed it. There is nothing more confusing than making a train reservation. They have more "what's ifs" then you can comprehend. I wish I could help, and I am sure someone will, but, it's point A to Point B fellas, don't all the seats go in the same direction?
