  1. You have to make sure that your left hand and right hand side has equal amounts of each components (or elements), so for your question, the balanced chemical equation is:

    C2H6 + O2 --> CO2 + H2O

    =>  2 C2H6 + 7 O2--> 4 CO2 + 6 H2O

    Just do trial and error, that's what i always do.

    Hope this helps.

  2. When a hydrocarbon(a compound containing only carbon and hydrogen) reacts with oxygen, Carbondioxide and water is produced.

    So,

    2C2H6 + 7O2 --------> 4CO2 + 6H2O

  3. First you need to know the products will be H2O and CO2

    C2H6 + O2 --> H2O + CO2

    Next balance the carbons; 2 on the left side, so must have 2 on the right side

    C2H6 + O2 --> H2O + 2CO2

    Now balance the hydrogens; 6 on the left side so must have 6 on the right side

    C2H6 + O2 --> 3H2O + 2CO2

    Now balance the oxygens; have 7 on the right side so need 7 on the left side

    C2H5 + 3.5O2 --> 3H2O + 2CO2

    Equations should not have fractional coefficients; multiply all of the coefficients by 2

    2C2H5 + 7O2 --> 6H2O + 4CO2

    It is now balanced
