  1. remember that:

    A + B ----->AB

    AB ---> A + B

    A + BC ---> AC + B

    AB + CD ---> AD + CB

    Look at the products and the reactants.  Aluminum's charge is 3+, Hydrogen is 1+, but if it's by itself its a diatomic molecule.  Try going from there.  Match the products with the reactants to get the same charge. on each side.

  2. well H has a charge of +1 (SO4) has a charge of -2 and Al is +2

    so we swap Al for H2 making AlSO4+H2

    now if we had just had one H and had Na or something replace it we would have to mix it up a little

    HNO3+Na ----> NaNO3 + H2 (h2 becuase hydrogen is a diatomic, meaning it bodns with itself)

    we dont have a balanced eqaution here because we have 1 H on one side and two on the other so we add coefficients

    2HNO3+2Na-----> 2NaNO3 + H2

    hope it helped
