How do u calculate IV's on Pokemon D/P

Question

I'm playing pokemon diamond and i wanted to train my pokemon well and everyone is telling me to check the pokemon iv's and give pokemon lots of ev's. I know what ev's mean but i don't know what is the meaning of iv's. How do u calculate iv's.

EV's are Effort Values that make your pokemon's stats increase a lot.  You can raise that by giving them Carbos, Protein, Calcium, etc.  IV's are the range of maximum stats in one category of stats.  Likes to run is good for speed.  Likes to trash about is the best for attack.  There are many different IV's, but each pokemon only receives one.  IF you look in the summary of the pokemon on the bottom of the summary, you should see the IV listed.  There is a chart that explains it very well but im not sure of it.  Its like on pokepsy.com or something like that. Not to sure.  But each IV makes the stat range ihgher or lower.  They are selected randomly, the way to train it is to EV train it.  You can find EV's on serebii.net.  Hope I helped

There are certain requirements to calculate IVs. These include the EVs on the Pokémon (if any), the level, the stats, etc. Because of this, you can calculate IVs easier by using an IV calculator. I suggest going to: http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calcdp.s... to calculate IVs. They also have a page explaining more about EVs.

IVs are Individual Values. There are only 31 of them. Each stat has its own IV. If your Pokémon have high IVs, then the more stronger they are (by stats).
