attack them with your pokemon dont kill them just make their health as low as possible.  paralyze, freeze or put them to sleep for a better chance of catching them.  use different types of balls for different pokemon.  a masterball will catch anything in one go use that wisely.ultraballs are probably the most expensive and effective after that

in a game, go to a patch of grass and walk around in it until you encounter a wild pokemon, then you battle a wild pokemon with your pokemon and you fight the wild pokemon until you weaken it, then you throw a pokeball at it and the pokemon will be caught. sometimes, the pokemon breaks out of the pokeball so you have to try again.
