then confirm it using the email you used to sign up

From anywhere on MySpace, click on the "My Account" button (top right corner, next to "Sign Out"). From there, click on "Account" (middle of screen, between "Contact Info" and "Password"). Scroll down to where it says "Account Cancellation," and click the link that says "Cancel Account." That will bring you to a page where you will have to confirm your cancellation, and once you do that your MySpace is gone forever. Good choice.
