  1. Motorcycle rider training is easy to find in the US.  Some will supply a 'cycle to learn on during their course.

You would learn rules of the road and, hopefully, more riding skills than just enough to pass the license exams, both riding and laws.

If you haven't been on a bicycle recently I suggest you do that first.  Then go to the classes.

It would be unwise, illeagle and totally not safe to rent or borrow a scooter before you get training.

    Good luck.

  2. You have a class on a week end, (and yes, it will take the bulk of the weekend to get done).

They give you a book, a lecture and then you RIDE.  Several hours at a time.  The next day, you will start indoors again, maybe take the written test, and go back to the bikes. You will put in a solid day on the bikes, over the weekend.  Try not to wreck the bikes, they may decide to fail you, not just beacsue you wreck the bikes, but they may flag you down for failing to learn the skill that caused you to wreck it.

Most instructors takes this pretty seriously, since it involves a legal requirement, so you probably will not get out early either day.  Show up in boots that cover the ankle, and a helmet, if you have one that fits. Long pants and a long sleeve shirt might be a good idea, just to shield your arms from unscheduled get-offs, sun and the like.

Expect to be tired after the class. Expect to have started on a new skill, which you will devote time to for the rest of your life. If you don't look like you are catching on, and are not improving your riding skill, they may tell you to go home.

If they do, do not get upset, not every one is cut out to be a rider.

If you are obviously TRYing but NOT getting it, they may offer extra instruction, more training time. Most people that take it a second time, pass.

These folks love motorcycling, and they devote themselves to training newbies.  Its a thankless job, so try to be agreeable with the people involved.

That is the MSF BRC, not the advanced course.

The usual method is to tell you what the drill is, giving careful instructions, and then you get a legover a bike and go do it. Ta Da!

BY the end of the course, you will either love or hate the bike you were trained on, but if you pass, you WILL have better skills than the usual passing grade at the DMV.

  3. go rent yourself a scooter and practice with it first no pressure by yourself

  4. the main thing ,is in a riders course ,they teach you "some" of the tricks to survive on the streets in the day to day world,My wife took the course and got her license .and she had never rode solo before .and I take the MSF advanced course every other year just to keep current and I have rode since 1965 so the course is worth your time and just might save your life on the street..They start with the basics brakes ,clutch ,shifting ,and throttle things that will become second nature the longer you ride ..so take the time and just do it !
