How do u get a rid of urine from a couch?

We had a party and a friend got literally pissy drunk and peed on hisself while lying on our couch. The urine, of course, went through his clothing onto the cushions on our couch, which luckily is a very dark color. Neither Febreze nor Shout works. I can unzip the cushions but they will not fit in the washer or dryer. How can I be rid of the smell and clense my couch?

It would really be best if you could use the upholstrey attachement from a carpet cleaner to really give it a good scrubbing then saturate it in white vinegar and allow to dry in the sunshine sitting up on its side to dry completely for the afternoon. If you have no such machine to scrub the surface, just saturating it through and through with white vinegar and setting it in the sunshine and fresh air for a day to dry will effectively sanitize, deodorize and freshen the otherwise ruined cushion.  Vinegar will break down the molecules and bacteria that cause the smell unlike all those costly sprays even from the pet store that claim to do just that. i buy the 1 gallon bottle from Wal-Mart for $1.28.

Hand wash the cushions and covers in the bath tub in blood heat water as many times as necessary to 'flush' out the urine. Put in enough water to just cover the cushions then using your feet, gently walk up and down on them the circulate the water. Pull the plug and repeat until you think you have rid the urine from them. Without any water in the bath repeat to squeeze out the excess water. When they are lighter use your hands to gently squeeze as much out as possible, then dry out in the sunshine and fresh air turning often to make sure they are thoroughly dry. DO NOT USE A DRYER! Rinse the covers in your usual fabric softener for a fresh smell or add white vinegar to the final rinse to sanitise and freshen before drying outside as usual. Good luck!
