How do u get into commercial use music; jingles and such?

or maybe backing tracks to video stuff? i can churn out riffs that go nowhere really.

Well, most music that backs commercials and show promos are from a pre-generated music bed CD,  we get them by the ton. You can try making a demo of a few short beds and send them to the production dept's at TV and radio stations, or look into promotion/marketing companies.
