  1. Here is what worked for me on Honda Big Red tank with severe rust.

    I first made myself a support device to allow me to tumble the tank by hand.Fill the tank with a box of 500 or so BBs or anything similar,the filling in leg weights works also,tumble by hand ,time is your choice until

    all the major surface rust is removed. I probably tumbled the tank for 4 or 5 hours over a week span. Remove BBs or whatever and rinse tank with gas or other solution and let dry in direct sun,completely.

    Purchase 2 gallons of  Evapo-Rust,shop around I got it for 16.00$ a gallon

    and let the tank soak for 24hrs on bottom and then invert and do the same .Follow the instructions on the product labeling,and call the company for any other info.

    This product works great,the rust pits will still be visible but you want have any rust.

    Hopes this helps.

  2. There is not quick fix. What you need to do is clean and recoat your tank. You can get this kit at most motorcyle shops or dealers. You will need to remove the tank and petcock.Empty and airblow dry the insides. Pour in the recoat and rotate the tank so it coats the entire insides. It will need to dry for 24hrs. Reinstall you tank and your done.

  3. Put in a couple of handfulls of gravel or stones and give it a shake around, this will loosen off any flaky rust, it may rust again over a long period, difficult to line the tank.

    ADDED>> I did say gravel, not boulders. Some common sense is required!

  4. Replace it!

  5. I think this answer is very good, and makes a lot of sense, and I would not use gravel, as it may dent the tank when shaking.

    Edit;

    Sorry should have said this question has been asked before, and the below answer was chosen as the best.

  6. Do as jayktee9 suggests but you may never be able to solve the problem completely.  Make sure your fuel filters are cleaned out regularly.
