  1. You have to go out and run to get used to running further.

The answer that you have to run slower to go further is correct, if you set off and try to race everyone else, then you will be perhaps going too fast, tire yourself out within a lap and then have to stop for a rest. It takes time for your body to recover enough to run at full speed again, which is fine for the longer distances, that a slow mile doesnt mean that much, but for short distances it makes a big difference - which you have fouind out.

If you want to, then go out on sunday and do some training. I would suggest that you go out for an hour. Find a park or track and run about 1500m, or for about 8 minutes - whichever. Then stop and rest to recover, then run back again, Rest and recover. On the way back try to run further between stops than you ran on the first run.

If you can go with someone to run with. A friend, parent, brother or sister, it doesnt matter too much. That way you can encourage each other as you go (dont discourage each other with thoughts like "Shall we just have a break here", go for more like "Lets just go a little further before we have a rest")

Anyway, with any luck at the end of the hour session you will be running quite long distances. When you go also take some water to drink.

Really, though, just keep at it. Perhaps for this sports day you arnt going to win... but you could for the next one. Done be embaressed that you were slower than the others - at least you had a go and managed to get round, I bet there are others who didnt even attempt to do the race in the first place

  2. Just keep Practising!

  3. Just keep running you will be surprised at how your body improves.  I am sure you can fit in 5 or 10 minutes a day to run for at least 5 days a week. You actually need to get fit before doing track workouts, although running race distance every 2 or 3 days will give some short term improvements.

  4. i can understand you completely because i just recently finished my track season running the 1500 meters under 5 minuets you must run everyday first start my running alot of millage getting your endurance up once your endurance is strong after this start doing track work getting more speed so a less total millage broken up on the track if you any question just ask

  5. run slower to run longer. by running fast, you use up the oxygen in your blood stream and then you have to stop. If you run slower, you can get to the point where you're taking in enough oxygen to supply the exercising muscles as they need it. top marathoners run 26.2 miles at 5 minutes per mile.

  6. just keep running it, soon enough you will be able to run it fine, just do 4 times the amount u want to run fast as your practice. then when u run that, you will be fine.

  7. Practice and a decent diet, lots of tuna and pasta the day before running, not to soon to running as you'll just feel bloated and won't get the energy from it you'll need, failing that cheat and use steroids, (lots of side effects though!)
