  1. Laptops sound/video cards are typically integrated onto the motherboard (to save space) meaning that if you need to replace it, you typically have to replace the whole motherboard. This is typically $600 for a new motherboard.

  2. you can go to the computer store and get a sound card that's compatible to your laptop, but just like one of ur contacts said u can also use a PCMCIA/Sound card and see if that works better for u.GL!

  3. The best buy "geek squad" is really helpful with that. They can fix anything and will help you find what you are looking for.

  4. With a laptop the sound is integrated in the chipset southbridge which is soldered onto the motherboard.

If your laptop is still under warranty you should be entitled to a free repair (if it's not you could try to explain that the problem started 6 months ago and see if that gets you anywhere).

If you can't get a warranty repair though then it's probably too expensive to be worth fixing.

  5. You could try getting a USB or PCMCIA/Cardbus sound card for your laptop. Look at at the list at Newegg at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

I noticed that they seem to be out of PCMCIA/Cardbus cards. Maybe those are on their way out.

  6. Depends on the warranty of the laptop. Being laptops have on board sound you would be better off finding a PC repair shop and getting the laptop looked at.
