How do u jump higer?

im13 5'1 i play libreo and i want to play OH because i hav a really awsome serve and i think that if i could jump higer i'll be able to play OH

  1. When doing your approach (right, left, right) when you jump bend your knees lower and use your whole legs!


  2. god damnit. DO NOT listen to Mandi H, the first response. that is garbage advice.

    consistent use of ankle weight in excersise is a bad idea... a) it will not make you jump higher. nothing incredibly noticeable. b) wearing them and training in them will strech the tendons in your knee and damage your legs.

    youre 13... youre still growing. start lifting weights... nothing too extreme. focus more on form then weight. do excersises that focus on your quads, hamstrings, glutes as threy are the muscles which are mostly incorporated with jumping.

    squats, deadlifts, good mornings, glute ham raise and split squats are good lifts.

    your lifts should also be explosive.

    as you get stronger, you can start doing plyometrics. i dont want to get into it... there are many sites on ine and well as book available probably in your public library. but it is advised that you should be able to lift atleast 1.5 times your bodyweight as plyos are very strenuous to your legs.

  3. Have light weight shoes.  Swing your arms when you jump.  Exercise a lot.  You can do it girl.  I play Volleyball two! OH Yeah!!!!

  5. wear ankle weights wen u jump at pratice. then wenur at a game u get a lot higher because your feel ALOT lighter

  7. they make these plastic box type things that are different heights and you just jump onto them, off of them, onto them, off of them, you can add ancle weights to help to, but don't use them too much, it's bad for you...you can do like lunges and stuff to strengthen your legs!  Good luck!  Hope that helped!  :]]

  8. I'm an OH. I'm shorter than most girls (5'2), but I can jump higher than most of them too.  Work on your thighs! Lunge walks, squat jumps, wall sits, leg lifts, karate kicks, and of course stretch! Like I did gymnastics so i got a lot of work out from that and flexibility. It definitely helps! I hope this answers your question. Also make sure your approach is correct, you miss a lot of power and height if it's not!

  9. jump rope with weights on your ankles.  It works so good, my brother did it for basketball and you could actually SEE the difference in a couple weeks.

  10. I'm 17 and just managed to reach 5'5 so your probably not done growing yet so keep aiming for outside hitter. To increase your verticle try running to condition your legs and squats, lunges, and hamstring workouts to strengthen and tone them.

Jumping higher is not the key to an overhand serve.  You can jump higher by learning how to jump, I know that when I had problems, it was because I was jumping with my lower legs and feet only.  You have to get where you are jumping with your thighs too, which will include your body.  Yes, swinging your arms helps, it's about getting your whole body into the jump.   Since you have an awesome serve can you place in all four corners?  Can you place it exactly where you want?  A serve does not have to be hard, you cannot ace all the time.  You want to throw the pass off if anything most of the time.  So the other team cannot easily setup their offense.  If you can float the serve away from the receiver that is much more effective.  Point the Pin Hole left or right will have the ball drift that way.

  12. YOu need to work on your lower leg strengh in order for you to jump higher....but it sucks that you so short, you might not be able to play OH just because of your genes!!

  13. You might want to look into shoes, I am not sure what you were talking about but there are all different kinds of shoes that might work for you.

    You could get higher ones, or ones with springs, or find out that you move better in something else.

Don't use leg weights too much becuase it's bad on your joints, so just play sports more often and if you want to "practice jumping" without going to gyms or anything, do what I do, Just jump over things wherever you go. I jump around my house and I jump over trash cans and benches around school. I have about 3.5 foot vertical, but i'm not trying to brag. I've played OH, DS, Opposite, and  setter. I'm also pretty light, and that contributes to it. So just habitually jump around and you can be a high riser and hit some crazy ten-footers! Keep up the volleyball playin'!

  15. Ouch, the hieght is not going to make it easy, but sqatting down till your butt nearly hits your ankles and then jumping as high as possible, then returning to the squat and repeating as many times as possible as a daily rutine is a great drill and it will show improvements.

  16. just get a running start and just keep doing that for about a month then you can be a OH instead of a libero.

  17. Buy ankle weights and jump rope with them on. Also try just jumping up and down with your arms out and see how high you can get. Might try running a little too to buld up some mussle in you legs.

  19. same thing for me. what i did is when ever i go under a door i do my approach and try to jump a high as i can to touch the top and i make goals to try and hit and eventualy if i do it alot i can jump higher

Don't do leg weights at your age, you will just hurt your joints.  There are a few different jumping exercises you can do or something I used was a shoe called Strength Training System Strength Shoes (they are a little expensive $100 or so).  The look really funny to work out in, but they gave me an extra 4 to 5 inches of vertical jump.

  21. When you jump, swing your arms forward and lift your feet off the ground. Running will also make your leg muscles stronger.

  22. there are some classes out there that teaches you ways. You can also try leg weights... but I've heard that those can hurt you....

  23. Buy ankle weights from walmart in the fitness section.....wear them all the time, and when you eventually take them off..you will jump higher.
