  1. You can put vinegar on her fingers, its not harmful and it is foul tasting. This will make her quit. We had to ween my brother of sucking his thumb this way.

  2. you can put hot sauce or something sour on them, so that way she dislikes the taste and won't want to do that anymore.

Or when she starts sucking her fingers, then create a distraction and get her to help you with something, where she will need both her hands.

Do not concentrate on the fact that she does this, otherwise the more that you bring it up, the more she will do it!

  3. You can put chile (spanish for hot pepper) in their fingers and they'll stop.

  4. I like the vinagear trick but be careful of peppers. If the child rubs their eye they may get it in their eyes which can be harmful. Same goes for vinagear but as long as it is dry it should be ok but still keep an eye on them. If you don't want to put anything on their hands, just watch them closely and when they start sucking remove their hand and reward them when the thumb stays tucked away.

  5. dip the fingers in salt or hot sauce

    its cruel, but it works

  6. paint her fingernails with tabasco sauce, its a fun way to play makeup with her but will discourage her from sucking her fingers without the danger of her suffocating on chili powder

  7. lolly pops or put something that tastes bad to them on their fingers for a day and they'll stop.

  8. Rub vinegar on the fingers.

  9. my mom rubbed a hot pepper on my sisters finger and she stopped sucking her thumb that way.

  10. I've heard some people talk about taking their kid to the dentist and he/she mentions the thumb sucking in relation to taking care of their teeth. Then the child doesn't want to because of what the doctor said. I might try this with my son because he's already getting quite an overbite at 3 years old.

  11. Put something on her fingers, something very disgusting. You could soak her fingers in salt water or vinigar. Or the liquid in the olive jar, whatever you call that.

  12. This book is thin, a fast read, and by tomorrow you will alter the life of the little finger sucker for the better. And it's easy!!

Here is info and the link:

I'm not worn out by the end of the day anymore! My kids listen to me and behave themselves!!  They are also much sweeter and happier than you could imagine. Polite to boot. What 3 year old says "thank you soooo much, Mommy"? Mine!

You can buy the book at amazon.com or any book store.  At amazon.com you can read reviews written by parents and see for yourself what a great book this is. It'll change your life and I don't go around saying that everyday. But it's true!

  13. Pepper is just mean. I can't believe anyone would suggest that. A woman recently KILLED her child by putting pepper on his fingers. Look it up. it really happened.

Also, it's NATURAL for kids and babies to want to suck! Maybe encourage that he not do it in public, but for god's sake it's how they comfort themselves! Why wouldn't you want your child to comfort himself any way he knows how? Does it hurt him? No. Does it embarrass you? Maybe. But who cares? He'll stop when he's ready.

  14. dip them in something she doesnt like, like lemon juice or pepper in her nails or salt. my moms mom used to do that to her to stop biting her nails...or give her a sucker

  15. Put Apple Vinegar on her thumb, but you might try to use relaxing music, water play , warm massage on her back using daulphin toys, or any aquatic animals your child like, spend time with your child, that will distract your child gradually from this habbit.

  16. When I taught kindergarten and had children sucking  thumbs or fingers I insisted that htey wash their hands every time I caught them.  This cut down on their play time a great deal. They also had to wash any toy they were playing with whilst sucking, as that is a certain way for germs to spread.  This seemed to be good motivation, as they kept having to leave their friends and games to wash.

  17. Its this kind of nail polish they sell at CVS for that. its clear so no one will see it. Its nasty and it will break the habit. It worked for me
