There is a practical method to tell when you are ovulating.  It all depends on the amount of days in your cycle.  For a regular woman with a 28 day cycle, her ovulation days would be around the middle.  14-16 days from the first day of your last period. I am almost 7 months pregnant now and i have a 31-32 day cycle.(which means that my period comes every 31-32 days from the first day that i start not end my period). When I got pregnant i didn't ovulate at 14-16 days after the first day of my last period, I ovulated a few days after because my cycle is longer.  So if i wanted to get pregnant again, i know that i would have to have s*x around 18-20 days or so after my period begins.  Its all about your cycle.  You need to start charting to know when you get your period every month.  Not all women ovulate at the middle of their cycle like books may say! You will notice a stretchy clear discharge also when you are about to ovulate.  It is more pliable than normal.  The test is to put it between your thumb and pointer and pull it apart like gum, if it stretches that is a good indication.  I hope that it helps.  I work for an obgyn so i get the scoop!
