  1. Legal.....?

    No not normally

Moonshine is normally mass produced spirit alcohol for sale.

illegal cause the government makes no money on it

    can be done with potatoes

People often have their own recipe, the mix can contain a variety of ingredients.

Home brews of beer, wine and spirit alcohol all can happen legally, It depends on local law and If it is for personal use.

  2. I KNOW YOU NEED TO BOILD IT AT 168 DEGREES THATS FOR SURE

  3. You should use a brewers or winemaker's yeast to get a good head start on the alcohol content.  There are some strains of specialty yeast that can go to about 23% ABV just from fermentation.

You then need a still.  In countries where it is legal, like New Zealand if you buy a permit, they make various models for sale in that country.  So, go contact some homebrewer supply shops.  You'll need them for the yeast anyways.

In terms of actually distilling it, the first batch is total junk.  Too much methanol.  It's called the heads.  Methanol boils a few degrees under ethanol, so you get a ton of methanol (blinds you) to start.  The next part is the good stuff, highest alcohol content.  The last part will be more watered down.  You could redistill it or toss it out.  Then you could redistill the middle part again to increase the ABV.  If you started with the specialty yeast, after one distillation it may be close to 40% if not higher.

You cannot go over 95% ABV.  And anything over 50% is easily flammable as a liquid.
