  1. I will add this.  I have gripped thousands of clubs and I never use the vise.  Its just another step and is unnecessary.  Take the old grip off.  A razor blade is good but any old knife will do it.  Put on the double sided tape.  Pour some lighter fluid into the grip, shake it and pour it over the tape.  Slide on, and adjust.  so simple.

  2. Well, it helps to have a few of the re-gripping tools.  You need a hook blade box cutter, but if you dont have one a regular box cutter will do (just be careful).  you also need double sided tape, to put under the grip.  Depending on the thickness that you want for your grip put the appropriate layers of tape.  Last you need solvent, if you dont have any lighter fluid works (although not reccomended).  apply the solvent to the tape that you have placed on the bare shaft and slide grip on.  put the putter on the ground as if you were going to put, make sure that when the grip is square that the leading edge of the putter is square too.  You will have a couple minutes to fiddle with the grip before solvent dries and grip starts to set.  a vice will be needed as well to apply the grip (forgot to add that).  Vice is not necessary but without one it makes it more difficult.

  3. What the previous poster wrote is pretty dead on.  I agree with using a vice, it makes things a ton easier.  I do however, think that lighter fluid is a good solution, I typically find that the solutions that stores sell, dries out even faster than lighter fluid and it leaves a residue on your hands.  Almost any golf store will have the tools and supplies you need, (except maybe the vice).

You're on the right track to saving some dough on a process that stores typically WAY overcharge for.  I regrip all of my own clubs at the beginning of every season.  I probably save $50-$60 every time.
