  1. Why have a cat if you are gonna keep it outdoors?

  2. I know everyone is going to say "They gonna get hurt... blah blah blah." But you cat is going to be happier and have a more fun life if he is let outdoors.

If he is litter trained put the litter box outside and show him it is outside. (do this while it is full of his poo and pee so he can smell it)

Also, get an additional food bowl and water bowl for outside so if he gets hungry or thirsty he can drink and eat.

Just get a cat door and what I do is put a kitty treat outside the door and also I rub the perimeter of the cat flap with catnip so the cat is attracted to the smell.

Hope I help, but just make sure your cat is safe and isn't getting into any trouble.

Ask neighbors if they think it is okay, especcially ask older neighbors that have lived there a while... they may know of some stories that may make you a little more cautios.

Also make sure, you are not on a busy street.

    Well good luck!

  3. You can't really train a cat to be an outdoor cat. Some cats like being outdoors and some do not.

I would highly recommend NOT letting you cat outdoors... It's so much more dangerous for cats outdoors, giving the cat the chance of getting hit by a car, attacked by a dog or any number of other outdoor animals, running away, getting taken by someone who finds it, and coming into contact with poisonous plants or pesticides... It's just so much safer keeping them indoors!

You never have a guarantee that your cat will return home if you let it go outdoors unsupervised... And even if you supervise your cat, you know how fast a cat can bolt in an instant... Unless it's on a leash and harness, I hope you won't let your cat out!

  4. You shouldn't train your cat to be an outdoor cat. It is very unsafe and the cat will be just as happy indoors. I have 2 cats who where strays, than I adopted them, they hate the outdoors and I wouldn't have it any other way.

  5. What training? Open the door and let it out. Instinct will take care of most of it and experience will take care of the rest. My cat went out as soon as the incision healed after spaying. Six months later and she is just fine.

Now; that's a country cat. City cats are different. You simply cannot foresee the problems associated with letting a cat out in the city. I am not a great fan of keeping any animal confined to the house but I'm willing to make an exception for city cats. Too risky and your neighbours may object.
