Holding the play/pause button does not turn it completely off. It puts in in sleep mode. Pressing and holding the back and down buttons at the same time is the only way to turn it completely off.

It will turn itself off. Just make sure no movie or no Music is playing and go back to the music,movie, pictures, and settings display and let it sit and in 2 mins. it will shut itself off.

Press down the back and the down button for about 3 seconds or just hold play/pause. Turning it off the first way saves more battery.
