How do university degrees work?

I plan on going to The University of Tampa with my best friend. But I'm still fuzzy on how everything works. I want to major in Mathematics and minor in Speech/Theater. So, explain to me in FULL DETAIL the system and how I would achieve the above goals.

Also, will my U.S. degrees be valid in Canada?

You will take a major and minor, which you have already chosen, in addition to general education courses. Those are courses that are designed to give you a well-rounded education - College Composition, History, Literature, etc.

You must have a minimum number of credits to graduate, which vary slightly from college to college. The very minimum any college or university will require for a bachrelor's degree is 120 semester hours, so you must take at least 15-16 credit hours per semester in order to graduate in four years.

Classes usually carry from one to four semester hours of credit. Most classes will be three hours, which means they meet three hours each week for one semester. Don't worry if this doesn't all make sense to you immediately - you will have an advisor to help you select your courses so you can stay on track.

Your U.S. degree from any regionally accredited college (and the U of Tampa is one of these) will be accepted in foreign countries.
