  1. they dont.

  2. vegan rice cheese tastes good^^

  3. A lot of them eat soy foods. If you go to Whole Foods for example, they have many types of soy milk, ice cream, cheese, and yogurt.

    :D

  4. i'm lactose intolerant (and vegetarian, not vegan) and i'm not gonna lie......sometimes i eat it anyway.  it makes me sick to eat it, but i LOVE cheese and ice cream.  i don't drink milk ever.....i drink soy milk instead.  most of the time i get italian ices and popsicles that don't have milk in them and that usually does the trick for the ice cream fix.  my mom is lactose intolerant too and i have switched her over to soy milk and soy yogurt....it's just hard to give up that cheese and ice cream!

i want to try some of the soy or rice based ice cream but it's so pricey....one day i'll splurge and try it =)

  5. There are dairy free versions of all of those products.

Personally, I haven't needed a cheese fix since going vegan.  I used to love cheese and I haven't found a stellar substitute. But it's been really easy for me to just go cheeseless or to make "cheesy" sauces from nutritional yeast.

There is a variety of soy yogurts available, but I've only used them for cooking and baking.  I never ate yogurt so I don't miss it.

As for ice cream, though, there are some really great substitutes, both soy based and coconut milk based.  Turtle Mountain's Purely Decadent brand has some really rich, creamy, delicious flavors.  Coconut Bliss brand is good too, as long as you like the flavor of coconut.

  6. One word:  SOY!

  7. Soy icecream is delicious! There  are soy cheeses too and even a soy yogurt made by Silk!

  8. There are alot of soy products that are good subs for these products. I personally have tried the soy yogurt and ice cream from Trader Joes and think that it's delicious. There is really no difference in flavor and they have great flavors. I am not sure about the cheese, but they probably have what you're looking for at one of the health food places.

  9. yep, soy.

soy cheese, soy ice-cream, soy yogurt, soy milk etc...

  10. Theres a soy version for all of those. I havent found a great cheese yet. But icecream and yogurt are great, a little diffrent to the milk based ones but they are still really nice :)

  11. well obviously you haven't been to whole foods. it's hella expensive, but worth it. i made a vegan grilled cheese sandwich today. it was delicious. trader joe's also has vegan ice cream and vegan cream cheese and even vegan butter.

  12. Well, first of all, you're assuming that all vegans need fixes for these foods. Not all vegans are going to miss these items. I'm a vegetarian (not vegan), and I almost never get a hankering for ice cream, just because it's never been one of my favorite foods.

Plus, the longer you're away from certain foods, the less you may miss them. For example, I haven't had pork in something like 12 1/2 years, and I don't really miss it. I certainly don't seek out a vegetarian version of pork (say, from my freezer case or a vegetarian-friendly Chinese restaurant). As your diet changes, sometimes your tastes can change, too. You look at food in a completely different way.

But for vegans that do crave these items, there are lots of options and not just soy ones. There are a lot of vegan cheeses on the market, ranging from really good to absolutely terrible. Sheese makes fantastic products; they're so good that my mom even gets my sister and my grandparents to eat them. Play Food makes squeezable vegan cheese that's sort of like Cheez-Whiz from nuts. Tofutti makes a phenomenal vegan cream cheese-like spread. Chreese makes powdered cheese mixes that yield good macaroni and cheese dishes and great dips.

It's pretty easy to find vegan substitutes for ice cream. Sorbets are usually vegan, as are water-based gelatos. There are lots of vegan ice creams on the market, like Soy Delicious and Rice Dream. Again, Tofutti items are vegan, and some are great. Try their Cuties! They're mini-ice cream sandwiches.

When it comes to yogurts, most of them are soy-based. Some are decent, but a lot of them are pretty terrible. The soy yogurt smoothies, like Silk live!, are pretty tasty, though.

A lot of these items are available at natural foods stores or from online retailers, but some are in larger supermarkets, like the bigger Safeways where I live. Items like Tofutti have niche markets, like Kosher retailers, so you can get those in places that cater to their specific clientele. Anyway, vegan dairy substitutes aren't that hard to find.

And there's an added bonus. By being vegan, none of these products have cholesterol! Cholesterol only comes from animal products!

  13. Well for ice cream there is always sorbet, which is less creamy but just as sweet.  Along with that, not even vegetarians eat yogurt because it has gelatin.  There are a lot of soy cheeses out there for vegans.  Half the cheese people get shredded from the store are cheese substitutes without any milk, and you may not even realize it.  As for milk in general, soymilk!  Its much tastier than milk too.

  14. soy

  15. there are soy versions of all those foods...

  16. Of course there are heaps of substitutes!
