  1. They eat soy, tofu, nuts, peanut butter, veggie burgers, hummus, all those delicious things ;)

  2. Tofu, soybeans, tempeh, potato, chickpeas, broccoli, mushrooms, oatmeal, rice, lentils, nuts, carrots, veggie burgers, ... [and the list goes on]

The idea that plant foods are somehow devoid of protein is nothing but a myth, triggered by the high-protein fad diets and the meat & dairy industry.

For more details, please refer to the following article (The Protein Myth):

  3. Vegeterians get their protein from nuts and beans. Example of nuts would be almonds and peanuts. As for beans we mean chick peas, lentils, soybeans, etc. If one is a complete vegan (strictly non animal by-products such as eggs, milk and no leather either!), a dietician will ensure complete vitamins and minerals supplements since some vitamins are absent without adequate animal protein such as vitamin B12.

  4. soy and some vegitarians eat fish!

  5. From food.  Meat is not the only thing that has protein.

I get mine from whole grains, soy products, beans, nuts and everything else I eat.  Broccoli even has protein.

  6. Protein powders, beans, soy foods,nuts,seeds,dairy/egg if not vegan. But all the soy foods cause a protein overload since the average woman needs 40grams a day and can be too much on the kidneys.

  7. Soy... vegetables... vitamins

  8. There is protein in everything and in America, we get too much protein! Some diseases like gout actually are due to a too-high protein diet, which is acidic.

Beans (legumes), nuts, seeds, whole grains, potatoes, all have healthy levels of proteins.

  9. From food.  It's a complete myth that vegetarian and vegans have a hard time getting protein.  It's the building block of life, meaning plants, which are living things, are loaded with it.  Calorie for calorie, many plant foods have much more protein than beef.

Good sources for vegetarians include soybeans and soy foods (tofu, tempeh, tvp, edamame, faux meat products,) beans and other legumes (lentils, peas, peanuts, chickpeas,) whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables (especially dark green ones,) mushrooms, eggs and dairy products.

Here's a link explaining how much (little) protein we actually need and why it's not desirable to get too much.  It also shows the protein content for several vegetarian foods: http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/prote...

(Vegetarians do not eat dead animals, so all the answers saying we eat fish are mistaken and misleading.  NO vegetarian eats fish.)

  10. ''Most foods contain at least some protein. Good sources of protein for vegetarians include nuts and seeds, pulses, soya products (tofu, soya milk and textured soya protein such as soya mince), cereals (wheat, oats, and rice), free-range eggs and some dairy products (milk, cheese and yoghurt)''.

  11. From other sources such as tofu, peanut butter and alot of other foods that are packed with protein

  12. look in the protein part of the food pyramid

notice there are a lot of things that arent meat.

lots of nuts and fish (some vegheads eat fish)

  13. I'm a whole grain gal myself.  It's amazing; if you eat whole grains at every meal, you get 50+ grams of protein without even trying!!  And then there's the old stand-bys, like tofu, seitan, and TVP!

  14. The same way everyone else does, from their food.

There is protein in just about everything. Vegetarians sometimes still use animal sources (eggs and dairy), but vegans do fine using only plant sources.

There is lots of protein in legumes (also lots of fiber). There's also plenty in seeds and nuts (though these also contain lots of fat). Quinoa, a grain, has a bunch of protein.

Most other plants contain at least a measure of protein... look at cows. They get pretty big and they don't need animal foods after weaning. (Of course, we're not cows, but the point is the same... plants can provide.)

  15. By eating

  16. Tofu, soy, beans, legumes, wheat products, wheat gluten, dairy and eggs if you are not a vegan

  17. tofu and lots of fish

  18. First of all, vegetarians don't eat fish.

Vegetarians and vegans get their protein from FOOD.  Have you ever heard of kwashiorkor?  NO!  And you know why?  Because protein deficiency is almost unheard of in industrialized nations.  Unless you're not getting enough calories or the ones you get are mostly junk food, it's almost impossible NOT to get enough protein.  h**l, more than enough--even VEGANS get more than they need.

  19. Mainly beans and tofu products. The vegetarians that eat dairy, eggs and fish get more protein from these items.
