HI, well i am going to sign up for my first ever horse show next may.i was looking at the classes and it says walk trot pole bending and barrel racing. Those classes are only for people who have never cantered in show before , so i fit in perfectly.

Can someone tell me what to expect in the classes:

Dressage walk/trot

english pleasure walk/trot

barrel racing walk/trot

and pole bending walk/ trot

I would like to know if those are classes we should enter. My horse is 20 and he seems strong at the trot, and i have only been riding over a year, but by then i will be riding 2 years.

what are those classes

thanks

  1. dont know sorry

  2. Hey

I've done 2 types of walk trot classes: the first is when youre in the arena with a whole bunch of other horses and the judge says suff like 'please pick up your trot' or 'please slow down to a walk' for like 5 -10 minutes. The second was a dressage test where I had to memorize where and when to trot and when to go to a walk, etc.

Barrel racing walk trot I'm pretty sure is you do the clover leaf in a walk and in a trot.

Your horse's age shouldn't be a problem in  a walk trot class, as long as he is sound. The show isnt until next May, so you guys should be fine.

Oh, and when you go, watch out for stuff like leg position and posting with the inside leg, the judges watch out for stuff like that!!

    Good luck!!

  3. Dressage walk/trot - Basically you will do all the dressage things, but at a trot. "Walk to B, Trot to D, Walk to A" etc.

english pleasure walk/trot - You will be doing transitions at the walk/trot. You will do stopping, backing up at the rail, going from a stop to a trot. stuff like that

barrel racing walk/trot - You basically just walk and trot the pattern, you can trot it all or you can walk it all. no cantering

and pole bending walk/ trot - same thing with barrels

  4. I hope i can help with some of  these . english pleasure is where you would start out on a walk on the rail and they wil tell you to walk or trot in the class really easy. From the classes that i have entered in at my show for speed are called trot barrels and trot polebending so i think they will be the same in barrel you have to trot the barrel pattern and you cant canter to much once in a while not on purpose. trot polebending is you trot  the pattern and the cantering is the same thing as barrel I hope that is some help.  http://columbia.uwex.edu/4h/documents/Sp...

  5. these classes are just like others but you only walk and trot. it's a lot esier way to practice instead of jumping in head first to a w/t/c class

  6. i would say that they are all classes done at the walk and trot.

never heard of doing these in walk/trot.  sounds like a good idea to introduce people to the class.

the only walk/trot i knew they told you when to walk and when to trot while going around the ring.

ask the judges/sponsers what they include before show.  mainly have fun and learn.
