  1. This question is quite ambiguous. The property of molecules dissolving easily in water suggests that you have a homogeneous solution where water is the solvent. Now, osmosis can occur, thus the substance will diffuse through a semi-permeable membrane. Then, the living organism of which the substance is diffusing will have a temporary reserve of the solution which can effect a range of essential metabolic functions, but where as water soluble substances do not remain in vascular organisms, they must be replaced everyday.
