How do we access 2 player mode fifa 09 ps3

Question

I have just bought a second controller so that my 2 young sons can play against one another . However they cannot figure out how to gain access to play in 2 player mode.

I have tried to help but have very limited experience with the ps3.

Would you be kind enough to step me through the process required to allow 2 player mode.
