How do we as a people start to practice "tax resistance" in protest of wasteful spending?

Ron Paul touched on peaceful tax resistance. We all know taxes are too high and what we are paying for is total B***S*** (Iraq war, corporate subsidies...). So I ask how do we start a tax resistance until the government gets its act together?

  1. Well, in Arizona where I live, our beloved socialist guv is pushing hard to get speed cameras installed all over AZ freeways for safety, ooops I mean revenue (there's millions in her budget for next year from "safety" camera fines).

If she gets her way, I will take a day on the weekend and drive back and forth between Phoenix and Tucson on Interstate 10 going 45 MPH, to make sure I am absolutely "safe".  My goal is to gum things up enough that an Officer Friendly or two will pull me over, after which I will vehemently pleady my case for being extra safe.  With any luck, I will wake up a sheep or two who just sit back and take it when government rams another one down his or her nether regions.

EDIT:  AZ Imagined, our beloved socialist was only open after her hand was forced.  Until then it was all about "safety".  If it flies, look for me in the right lane on I-10 doing 45.  Gray Chrysler 300c with a cranky libertarian inside listening to some great tunes.

  2. (I'm in Arizona too.)

Actually, RP, Governor Napolitano has been quite open that the speed cameras are to collect revenue.  Of course, the well-documented problem is that speed (and red light) cameras work too well and revenue drops to the point that the system cannot even pay for itself.

  3. We need to revisit ALL government-influenced decisions.

In the mid-sixties I paid $.30/gal for gas, $.25/gal when there was a gas war. (Now, what's a gas war?) Minimum wage was $1.00/hr. I bought a brand new car for $2000 cash and saved enough money for  one year of college.

In 1970, lifelong earned income at 62 was expected to total $208,000

In 1970, I got a new job for $2.00/hr, paid $1.00/day for rent, and bought a new full-sized car for $4000 that got 25 mpg highway. Products that produced better mpg were popular and I boosted my mileage to 30 mpg highway.

Then catalytic converters were required and the same car got 15 mpg. Twice the gal per mile = double the gas tax paid.

So if today's cars ever get better mileage, the government will have to adjust the gas tax rate to collect the same amount of tax.

The government wants us to ride mass transit or carpool to conserve on fuel. Yet, for the same reason mentioned, the gas tax would have to be increased as a result.

Mass transit companies and parking lots that accommodate carpooling charge the most during hours that would produce the most conservation. It's been proven that transit can be more popular and more profitable if it's rates remain the same.

An example of what could be done to show how hypocritical the governments proposals are would be for a month have everyone boycott the gas stations (buy no gas at all) and everyone ride the transit (flood the system) to see what the government does with gas conservation and see how ready they are for mass transit. If we wanted to be really tough, we could ask that for a month no one ride mass transit during any increased peak-hour rates.

  4. Vote for those who support the FairTax. Vote for those who will shrink government rather than expand it.

  5. i have thought about the same thing America and UK following are in a bad situation right now because of wasting tax money, the only way for change is a mass revoltution as the government claim to be democratic and act in the interest of the people.
