How do we enter the file number in status enquiry for passport ?

the file number on receipt has four characters and several numerals , but we need to fill only one character and 6 numerals. which one to fill?

You need to look in the manual.  Even if someone knows the answer, they might be afraid to give it here, because they might think it's confidential, and they don't know who you really are.  For all they know you might be a terrorist looking for ways to steal information from the State Department database.
