  1. Population:  we've been breeding and eliminating our environmental competitors since we've existed.  Procreation is an evolutionary survival tactic like many other things.  As long as there was new arable land available the main limiting factor was disease.  That got us up to about the Roman times.  After that it's been a matter of conquest, and one society exterminating another.  Advances in agriculture in the 19th and 20th Centuries allowed us to continue in this mode, while antibiotics, water purification and other public health measures were added to the equation, reducing mortality.  Up until the late 1970's problems of malnutrition and starvation were problems of food distribution only.  Then food production reached its effective engineering limit with prevailing methods.  Once the population exceeded the food supply population growth continued, increasing as a survival strategy in impoverished areas, and decreasing only in affluent countries.  A few countries, like China set mandatory controls on procreation.  That's where we are today.

    Green House Effect:  This causes a planet with an atmosphere to retain heat more than a planet without an atmosphere, as established by Fourier in 1824.  Some gases cause more heat retention than others because each gas has unique absorbtion and emission spectra, as established by Tyndall in 1859.  Humans have been releasing CO2, a Greenhouse Gas since the discovery of fire.  Human industrialization has increased the amount of CO2 humans release and increases in CO2 will always be associated with a predictable increase in heat retention, as established by Arrhenius in 1896.  The rate of increase in industrialization and the associated increased release of CO2 is a concern that will eventually threaten our existence, as established by Callendar in 1938.  The proliferation of industrialization has continued and accellerated since Callendar's time and the increased CO2 levels and heat retention predicted by Arrhenius have occurred proportionally.  Levels of concern began to rise in the 1960's, as the effects on the environment began to become obvious.  Those effects became increasingly drastic in the 1970's and were beginning to force changes in our way of life by the 1980's.  That is where we are today, with no significant changes in technology or practices, and ever increasing industrialization worldwide.  Environmental measures are reaching crisis levels, starting with the melting of the polar and glacial ice which will lead to more drastic changes


  2. The principle of causation is used more to explain the out come of time travel and the butterfly effect than Global warming.

    The Principle of Causation assumed that all events are caused by earlier ones according to the known laws of nature.

    With this in mind the population overshoot is caused by the population growth rates. The Green House effect is calculated by previous weather and atmospheric data.

    Pierre-Simon Laplace  claimed that if the current state of the world were known with precision, it could be computed for any time in the future or the past.

  3. There is no man-made global warming.

    The earth is not over populated.

    IF there is a coming famine its because Ted (I.R. Liberal Newager) Turner is buying up all the farmlands and turning them into a gigantic buffalo preserve.

  4. What the heck is "population overshoot"?  Sounds like when a bomber's payload misses the target city entirely.  Causation would be a release of ordinance too late in the run.

    There is no target population during peacetime.

    Causation of the green house effect would go:  Earth has atmosphere.  Sun has energy.  Sun's energy strikes Earth.  Atmosphere retains a portion of this energy in the form of heat.
