let's get serious here. population control is a huge problem that the world is going to need to start dealing with especially in asia, europe, and the u.s. i hate to say limit the number of children or forced sterilization, but desperate times call for desperate measures. natural resources will run dry. let's leave god out of this one.

  1. The world's population has increased and the world's production of food has also increased. There has been no running dry of natural resources. We just have to find better ways of using them. Stop worrying.

  2. Errr..........what do you care?Does it affect you?

  3. There is no need to be alarm by this.  Nature takes care of itself.  Studies show that in places like Europe there are more elderly people than children now they are worried about encouraging people to have more babies.  In some European countries the government is even giving couples money if they have an extra child.  Plus with so many natural disasters and so many wars that are killing human beings the focus shouldn't be in over population.

  4. Forced sterilization.  If we get to that point here I'm checking out.  I don't want to live in that kind of world.

  5. the world stage is getting angry at china for it's human rights violations which largely concern forced sterilization and forced abortions. the forced sterilizations though usually only occur when the man has broken the law. he is only allowed to father one child and should be responsible enough to use protection. after a third child is fathered, that's the idea of when it should happen.

IF a man or woman should complain that it is her right to bring into the world as many children as he or she would like, that is perfectly legal in china. all they need to do is pay for that child: the child's school, food, clothing, etc (pay through a special tax). china is a communist country and supports most of its people but doesn't have the power to support 6 billion. so if someone should insist on birthing 6 billion, that's fine, as long as they can support them themselves.

now, though i understand the CONCEPTUAL point, i really can't actually support such actions like forced abortions. even under "ideal circumstances" (only happening when violation of one-child law), it really is abhorrent (i am prochoice). and even more so, the ROC does not always act only when these things violate the one-child law.

  6. OVERPOPULATION

sure but the question is HOW????

how do we ethically control overpopulation?

It is suspected that controlling factors have been in play already for quite a while .

And ethically is not possible .People are to vain or to proud ,Many many cultures rate a man´s value by the number of children they got ,In India,Africa,Mexico and USA amongst others

Our natural resources and especially food production are reaching critical levels as well as fresh water supplies .

People use and need land,so more and more is being changed to accomodate human growth and devellopment.

    Over the last half century,

Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

Each year pressures on water supplies are increasing with 70 million more people drinking cooking and washing ,not to mention Irrigation for agriculture which consumes 70% of all water supplies.

    SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS

At a Bilderberg(UN)meeting in Kopenhagen in 1998 it was suggested to bring the world population down by 60%,one cannot help but wonder at how this would be archieved

(And the Americans manauvring for a nuclear war is suspicious)

    POPULATION CONTROL

(in the past and present and suspected)

    War (past .present and future)

Native peoples have been suplied with arms and encouraged to wipe each other out ,(such as all over Africa )

    NATURES WAYS

disease(today, past and future)and Natural disasters or predators

    MAN´S WAYS

    Manufactured disease(suspected today)

    Cures that kill(suspected today)

    Poisoned consumer goods (suspected today)

Making children infertile or g*y,by raising the PH level in drinking water or even drinks (suspected today)

    BIRTH CONTROL

In the past the Olmecs women ate yams to make them infertile,

Today we have several methods but most reach only the educated ,i handed out condoms to an native Mazatecca comunity in Oaxaca ,and the church retrieved them all )

Education on birth control(not enough, again the poor regions are excluded )

Laws that limit childbirth per family(China)

RADICAL APPROACH ,remember Soylent green , ?????? Who can imagine to what exstent humanity can be driven if Survival was the issue.

We have already seen some horrific human behaviour surface in times of War .

In the past the Mayas ,Aztecs and druids to name but a few practised Human sacrifice,

The Aztecs fertilized their fields with the by products.(an economic idea)

To sacrifice Enemies of the planet would remove the strain on Natural resources such as fresh water supplies,Slow down deforestation because of settlement and expanding farming

Better then bombing People ,making everybody angry .

The Gods would be over the Moon and the general public would be much more respectfull towards our Planet

    LOL

    (don´t forget i said lol)

  7. I feel the same way. I think that we should have tax write-offs for people who have two or less children or who buy contraception or who sterilize themselves.

Every time I see a family with eight or nine kids I feel sick in the pit of my stomach. Why did the parents have so many children when so many people are starving from lack of natural resources?

I agree with you completely. We need to take action, and we need to take action NOW.

And if people feel the need to have large amount of children (typically religious fanatics that remind you of the charming Monty Python and the Meaning of Life song-"Every Sperm is Sacred") then may do so, but face large fines. And couples who refrain will reap the benefits of lower taxes.

Low cost abortions and sterilizations should be offered by the government, but never forced upon anyone.

  8. Why would we leave God out of it.  It's his world, he owns it.  He can send as many here as he wants.  Who are we to tell him how to run his world.  If you are an atheist it doesn't matter, just start killing unborn children and hope there is no God to deal with later.

  9. dont worry....god made us...so god knows what to do.........

  10. Space colonization.

There's a whole universe out there that would be awfully hard to overpopulate.

  11. this question is a joke population is not out of control that is a total lie please use your head lets leave fear tatics out of this one

  12. people are out of control.

  13. Well, contraception is EVIL, and limiting the number of children is denying basic rights.

Maybe people could get a monetary compensation for getting sterilized after having a set amount of children.

  14. I think you're dancing around the most important issue, which is:

    Who gets to decide?

  15. Education, better living standards, incentives to have less kids and taxes ,levies for more kids (2 kids per couple sounds like an ideal number) should be enough to curb population.

In some places religious fanatics shout against population control these may need more stern measures. Also selective measures against a certain culture/race etc. have to be opposed.

  16. i asked a chinese friend about pros and cons for population control, the only point attract my attention was the future generations will have no "uncles" or "aunts"

but for the resources, it's all going to supply wars anyway, simple math.

  17. you're missing the fun of having cute kids AND sexual intercourse

  18. it's a very good question. you & i can do nothing without the help of our goverment.

these are some points we think about that to get some better  result.

    1. people have to make consious about population blast.

2.goverment will penalize for more then two child.

3.people have to make consious about use of condoms & cont. pills

4.some documentry films needed in every popular tv chanels in every week regarding this matter.

5.NGO's have to play a serious role to show the bad effect of this matter.

6.we have make consious to those unconsious people who dont care this.

  19. we should cross their border and take their d**n jobs

  20. Thats easy, just do away with the laws that protect the stupid from hurting/killing themselves and the population will take care of itself.

  21. Oh yea take away peoples cival liberties, and then take away their right to bear children... How about we call the US "China2"... catchy huh?

get a history book, you ever hear of eugenics? the idea of population control can lead to horrible things if, especially if you live in a dictatorship...WW2... whos going to set up the guidelines, whos going to proform the abortions, if nessesary?... that didn't make the sterilizations any better that were proformed in the early 1900's any better.

with reguards to what the media has lead society to beleive, we are not going to run short on fossil fuels any time in the near future... if anything, look to food shortages being the first thing that affects people on a "global scale"... we need to start building higher... not outward... and switch to ethinol... that should solve your concerns

  22. It is wrong for government to regulate how many children a couple may have.  I think that is a personal choice.  However, there could be more public service announcements on TV and in newspapers/magazines regarding population control--for the information of parents and would-be parents.

  23. I agree.  It's time to thin the heard.  I do believe in god, but I am also a realist.  The world is becoming overpopulated.  Right now, muslims and mexicans are reproducing at record levels.  This is because both want to spread like wild fire, to overwhelm the world and the US.  I am also for abortion.  Every abortion is one less person.  Why do so many die in tsunamis? Overpopulation.  If there wasn't such a concentraction of people, not so many would die.  There are so many ill effects due to overpopulation.  We definetly need to do something about it.

  24. yes, let us do get serious about population control...

Why is it less humane to kill an unborn child than to have people starve to death?  to me they are at the same level of unacceptability.

I think a larger issue than simply population, is the resources used by each group of people.  The average child Canada and the US used more than 4 times the natural resources a child does in any developing nation.  Stop and think about all the electricity we use and how much peole waste... The drinking water we in the U.S. waste makes me despondent for the millions of people who don't even have access to clean water.

It is NEVER right or even justifiable to control population with forced sterilization, or abortion...

Possibly: IF you want to offer monetary stimulants to a people group(nation) to have only 2 children per household, I think many people may opt for that option. Or perhaps vasectomy and tube tying could be offered for free by the Government... though you KNOW the U.S. would NEVER be able to do that, because as the richest nation in the world, we can't afford health care to our citizens...

Our earth needs to be taken care of, (because God told us to take care of it) but it isn't helpless either.... tsunamis, ice ages and hurricanes help lower population in their own non discriminatory ways.

  25. ITS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO EDUCATE THE PEOPLE TO REALISE THE PROBLEM OF POPULATION EXPLOSION. WE CAN OVER COME THIS PROBLEM BY LIMITING THE CHILDREN TO TWO.ONE OR NONE SHOULD BE APPLIED TO COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA.

  26. Wear a condom and do not demonize the issue of birth control.  The religious right uses this as a political football.  It really needs to stop.

  27. I agree with Melissa H's answer, but there is something else you forgot that is part of the problem.  The birth rate would not be a problem if the death rate balanced it out.

Medical science goes to extraordinary lengths, and costs, to extend our lives unnaturally.  Self preservation tells us that is a good thing (even though we could do the same thing by living more "naturally").  But it also means that people consume more than they ever have in history because they live longer.  It also means that if the average "generation" is considered to be 20 years (just to set a number) and the average lifespan is 80 years; that means that four generations are born before one generation dies.

The planet cannot sustain that growth rate in population.  People must be given the choice to refuse medical treatment ... for themselves, not for anyone else.  It may be considered a form of "assisted suicide" by some, but it is a logical continuance of "pro-choice"

  28. The problem with supposed lack of natural resources isn't that there isn't enough to go around, but those in power stoppng those resources.  Some of the most hideous starvations in the past modern history have been created by madmen in power in AFrica, stopping all the food and grain from getting to their people, letting it pile up on their docks, or trading it for power to promote their dictatorships.

And for decades, the US sold grain to its publicized enemy--- the USSR which was bent on our destruction--- because they couldn't grow enough to feed their own people.

Democracy has been show and proven to provide the daily person with the best means of improving his lifestyle and condition on earth.

But if that means nothing, then why worry at all?  If the global warming is true, then all of us will be dying off anyway.  Nature always balances out, remember.

  29. As you know, China and Japan began measures long ago to control population.  But now with better income China is allowing more children to be born even though their country is overpopulated.  We in America had determined years ago that 1.5 children was the average, and most people felt they had to at least replace themselves, i.e. have 2 children.  It "seems" to be those people who are devout religiously and who feel God iwll take care of things who have allowed their families to be large, and those who are poor and who have not had access to education or who didn't have jobs (time on their hands) or who had low morals tended to have more children and children they couldn't afford.  So if the jails are full of low income and poor people now don't you think that if you make a law for anything those people will still not listen to it?  Wealthy and middle class people appear to be listening, or listening to some extent about not having large families.

As you know, large families were had back in the 1800's and early 1900's (maybe even before then) because people had farms and needed cheap laborer or labor they didn't have to pay, or could pay in food and housing.  And then their large families had somewhat large families and those that followed had smaller families, and now their grandchildren are having divorces and many more children.  Each person when they divorce want to prove their love to their new mate, and each person is marrying from 2 to 5 times or more in their lifetime.  So it's a decline of morals.

How about if we just stop people from divorcing?

If you stop the divorces you could also be helping the males out because maybe they could afford their children and stop haivng more children.  On the other hand, get rid of viagra and other male enhancements.

In years past there was operations for the males and tubiligations or historectomies for women.  What happened to those ideas?  I think what happened was hollywood and low morals that our young people followed.

  30. To suggest the US has a problem with a population that is too large shows extreme ignorance.

  31. um how about a better education system?  the more educated people are the more interested they are in "green" issues, the less chance they drive an suv AND they usually have less kids too.
