We even cleaned out the entire tank yesterday and added fresh water but still is cloudy. I dunno we feed then a pinch of food everyday its a 10 gallon tank. starting to think were feeding them too much but I dunno since one died already (we had 12 all together) they are very tiny. they look very healthy and swim a lot but we can barely see them! anybody have an idea????

  1. ahem, first of all your tank is way to small, even for just one single goldfish

they need to have for 1 goldfish 20+ gallon and for every other goldfish another 10+ gallons

so if you would like to have 12 goldfish, you would need a 130+ gallon tank

as for your tank beeing cloudy, that's because firstly of the substrate where the debris needs to settle

and a little later down it will be cloudy because of a bacterial bloom, which is caused by the nitrogen cycle

to learn more about what i just told you, please read through this article here

    Edit*

it is never recommended cycling a tank with fish, no matter which species

    Edit 2*

how can you advice getting a bigger pump, if the one which is now in is just fine, every time you put a new filter your tank will go through the cycle all over again

every time you do a 100% waterchange it will go through the cycling process all over again

  2. its a new tank syndrome will take time to clear out specially you got pebbles in your tank  to avoid this set up tank first before buying the fish.  You can transfer the fish in a basin with aeration for coulple of days.  Let the filter mature.

  3. change the water weekly and i will go down

  4. The reason for your tank on being cloudy is due to you never cycled the tank. I recommend cycling the tank between 2-4 weeks sometimes even longer. You should let your filter run, and let your tank sit for that much period of time. You should also be testing the water parameters, such as ph, nitrite, nitrates and ammonia balances in your water.

The reason why you should cycle your tank is due to the fact that these fishes came from pet shops. Pet shop tanks are fully established and has the necessary bacteria to lower the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels in the tanks. However, since you put the fishes in the tank without having the knowledge of cycling the tank and the purpose of it, here is what you can do, you can go out and buy products containing these nitrifying bacteria and please follow the directions on the product. For example, we need bacteria in our bodies to stay immune to some diseases and infections, well the same theory goes for fishes as well.

If you put a fish into a tank without bacteria which they came from a tank with bacteria, this will lower their immune system and they can get sick really easily and possibly die. However, if your tank still remains cloudy after cycling, it can also be a bacterial bloom.

You should be conducting water changes between 10-15% per week, and once a month 25% water changes. You also should be using water conditioners in your fish tank water. This not only removes heavy metals, it not only puts slime coating on your fishes that the fishes needs, it also dechlorinizes the water. It also could be chlorine in the water making the water cloudy as well.

Anyways, even though your tank is small for those fishes, you need to take the appropriate measures to correct these problems. You can always upgrade your aquarium later on when these fishes starts to get bigger. It is better to practice on a smaller aquarium first before upgrading. This is a lesson that is very important to know of.

Other than that, I hope this information helps, thanks for asking.....................

  5. it is caused by the large amounts of amonia your goldfish produce

    that tank is too small

    12 feeders (comet/commons) need

    170 gallons

1 needs 50 gallons and every other fish needs 10 gallons after the first one

if you get fancy goldfish its just 20 gallons followed by 10 fo every other fish

also tiny goldfish will grow into foot long goldfish

if they are put into a small tank this stunts them this means the outside of them stops growing but there inside organs dont

causing them a slow and painful death

    please do whats best

  6. a goldfish produce alot ammonia (urine) I call them a eating machine which cause your tank to bomb. you can change one half of the water to solve it But it could also be do your water system where you live try to wash your tank out with plain salt
