Conservation of the oil available is what is needed right now. Drive less.

One thing most people don't know is how much fuel we are using in Iraq. Our Abrams tanks use JP-8 jet fuel and it takes ten gallons just to start the engine. They have nearly 1900 of them running almost constantly, and they each use about 300 gallons per hour. The Apache Helicopter uses that much or more too. And the larger copters use it by the ton. One flight by a large aircraft like the one Bush flies over there on uses so much fuel that the same amount of fuel would run the average cars for 7 years for every hour it flies. They use so much that it is impossible to estimate their total fuel use for a month or a year. If that huge amount of fuel was left on the world market, we'd not have such a MASSIVE problem here at home.

General Paul Kern, head of the Army Material Command, said they have to pay an average cost of $300. per gallon to buy it on the world market and get it hauled up to Baghdad by "contractors".

if so: we are currently drilling more oil in the U.S and U.S properties, but we cant keep up with demands

American based oil companies are looking at alternative energy, exxon i think is looking into geothermal energy and all kind of ridiculous stuff.

start drilling off Florida, California,and in Alaska. This will give us more than enough oil to work with until we find something better and get it up and running.

We cannot break our habit of importing oil right THIS second, but there are improvements and research being made to move the united states to rely on domestic energy. For example: renewable energy sources such as --> Solar energy, Wind turbines, Biofuels, Hydrogen fuel, Hydrogen Fossil Fuel (Methane), and taking steps to conserve energy inside the home and outside it. It will take all of us to come together and make an effort. Steps we can do is to improve insulation inside the home to keep it warm/cool, drive more efficient cars, use florescent lightbulbs, etc.

We can't. Not right now. Unless we want everything to come to a stop.

We CAN, however, start drilling for the oil that is available to us on our own share of the planet and be a player in the oil business again.

But the Democrats don't want that to happen.
