We are going on a family cruise. How do we transport our two young children from the airport to the cruise ship? We are not bringing their car seats on the plane with us. The children will sit in our laps. Are there taxis that have car seats in them? Or is there a type of shuttle serves with car seats?

  1. The cruise ship arranges a shuttle bus for you - they will meet you at the airport and check you in.  They will not need car seats on the shuttle bus.

  2. When you arrange the transportation with the cruise line, mention about the 2 kids - they will prepare that in advance (same as you book the car ).

  3. If you are leaving the car seats at home, then you are going to have to call ahead and make special arrangements.  You might have to hire a limo (it doesn't have to be a stretch limo) or you might need to rent a car.  And this applies in both directions.  You might find it is easier to bring the car seats.

  4. Where are you going? What airport, which port? We fly to Orlando and get our cruise from Port canaveral. It's an hour drive. I absolutely take or rent seats for my kids. They kids were 4 and 6 when we did this last year. We carried the booster seat with us and stored in under the bed in the cruise ship for the week. It's not worth the risk of injuring your children for a little convenience at the airport. For the younger child we rented a regular car seat from the airport. That way we didn't have to worry about lugging a big seat on the ship.

I would not recommend taking children on a taxi without seats. Those drivers are crazy! A shuttle like a bus may be a little safer, I would consider this.

  5. To my knowledge they don't have them. Legally, you are to have them if you want to transport kids. I would pack them, with a collapseable stroller, that can be used with the car seats and thus free you to carry and push the kids. Hun, its a safety issue, and if you plan to travel with kids, that is what you have to do. Taxis are very helpful with placing bags, ect in and out of the cabs, and I would for sure tell them you have strollers with kids. With small kids, you don't want them on board a ship without it.

  6. is there a bus or public limo to the cruise ship  maybe you will need to bring the car seats as extra luggage

  7. Use the transportation provided by the cruise line. There is a fee but they will handle everything. When you get the vouchers be sure to let the rep know you have young children so they can deal with any potential issues in advance.

  8. call a cab co. and ask them. I would def. have car seats for my kids, what if there is an accident? you would be devastated not to mention the poor little helpless children.

  9. Actually, children are not required to be restrained in car seats while riding in taxis but I wouldn't feel safe doing it.  I would check into a shuttle service.  When we went to Disney World, they had a shuttle that went from the park to the airport and provided car seats.  The only other suggestion I have is to gate check your car seats.  I'm assuming your children are under 2 since they will be sitting in your laps?  If so, you can buy 2  Cosco Scenera car seats for $40 a piece and gate check them.  I definitely wouldn't gate check your everyday seats, though.
