Question:

How do we get our leadership to stop cheating us out of our social necessities?

Presently our leadership allows too much of our money to be spent on military-industrial endeavors. It leaves a shortfall for schools, the elderly, family care, and most other pressing national issues related to infrastructure, for example. By reading Nobody's Perfect; A Critique of Modern American Society, by Richard W. Glukstad, we could solve these problems.

  1. They should collect more taxes.  Eventually they'll reach the point at which nobody has to take personal responsibility for their level of savings or the upbringing of their children because there will be a glorious nanny state in place to heal our ailments and take all of our earnings.

  2. Actually, the solution to this most egregious of problems is quite simple.

Americans need to pick up the phone and call their elected officials. They need to pick up a pen once again and write a letter to their elected officials. And for the supremely lazy, yes - even an email to your Congressperson's office is better than nothing.

    Seriously - it's that simple.

If every single voter would CONTACT their elected official and plainly, respectfully, forcefully TELL THEM that we want to stop financing the Military Industrial Complex and FOCUS on the very real needs of American society, you would see a big shift.

Oh, and for the dufus who said military spending was "only 20% of the budget?"

That's a flat-out LIE. Dude, they spend more than THAT on the Homeland Security Dept.

The total budget for the Military Industrial Complex is WELL OVER 50%.

Now you just think about that a minute.

Over half your tax dollars going to cheats like Halliburton.

  3. I believe the writers of the declaration of independence had the best idea on that.

  4. BUY your own social necessities... stop compalining

Schools are from local funding, not national

  5. easy question.....the solution is to vote democrat this time around.  democrats focus more on socail programs in the U.S. than on foreign policies.

    good luck!

  6. Please don't tell me we don't fund schools. We spend more money on schools than just about every other country in the world and our education system is failing us. The defense of our country is one of the few things that our government is mandated in the Constitution none of your example are. Government is not the answer to all of our ills and we should never become beholden to it.

  7. The federal government is intended to provide for national defense.  Not schools, the elderly or family care.

These are priorities of state and/or local governments; and more importantly, individuals.

The federal governmet is indeed cheating us, but only by taking taxes to pay for things that the federal government has no business doing.

  8. It's your tax money that they are stealing and giving away to their cronies. If you want to fix the infrastructure you have to get rid of the old entrenched guard and replace them with people who will look out for the interests of the American people.  Putting our skilled craftsmen to work on infrastructure is a good investment in manpower and in maintaining the quality of American life.

  9. The problem is bigger than most people know. The bureaucracy we have created not only in education, but everything else, cost more money that most people know about.

In public school, it costs about 20K per year to educate a child. In charter schools, about 5K per year. The rest is all the waste and expenses school boards spend each year.

First thing we need to do is get our country back from the career politicians.

Then we need to re-evaluate where we are at and what we need to do. If Charter schools can educate kids and have higher exit scores than public schools, then we need to look at what they are doing that is so cost effective.

We cant stop spending on the military. We had all those cuts under Bill and the military was not the lean, mean fighting machine America needs.  Defense is not cheap and from the stats I have read, neither is education or medical. We as a nation spend way too much on welfare and give to much SSI to people who have never paid into it.

We need to get America back where it has the greatness we once had, back in the late 50's and early 60's.

    Semper Fi

  10. Send em a copy of the book!

  11. You have just fallen off the edge.  You have got to be kidding me.  You think to much is being spent on Military and Industrial issues and the government can take care of you?   What planet are you from?  Thats it, I'm going back to drinking, it's the only thing that will  block out the idiological thinking and keep me sane.

  12. Throw the bums out.

  13. PLEASE !

Only 20% of the budget is spent on Military!

schools, the elderly, family care - NONE OF WHICH IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!

  14. Hey moron, it was not the government hand-outs that built America, in fact we have been declining because of it. When people look to government for "free" stuff, you become a slave to the same.

  15. It's not the governments job to take care of you, I or anyone else. It's your job to take care of yourself, your family and your elderly. Stop this social spending c**p and there's plenty of revenue to take care of infrastructures. Get rid of the teachers union and you'll solve half that problem. Separate education and government.

  16. Although I feel like you're more or less advertising the book, and not asking a question, I'll provide my answer.  You won't like it.

How about asking people to be responsible for their own families?  Why exactly is the government supposed to play parent to all of us?

Why are we blaming the government for helping businesses?  Businesses aren't the enemy.  Capitalism WORKS.  There's a saying, "I never got a job from a poor man."  It's true in the world of business, but in politics, it's just the opposite.  If politicians want to stay in office, they have to be sure people will line up to vote for them.  Best way to do that is give them things.  "Don't work for minimum wage and live off your own earnings!  You're being cheated, you're victimes!  Here, let us support you with Food Stamps, HUD, TANF, and all sorts of other programs that the evil corporations and those awful, 'rich' taxpayers will have to pay for.  All we want is your vote."

Creating a society of entitlement to everything just for existing leaves that society with less of a reason to strive and better itself.

Good luck to you in marketing your book, whether it's for some commission you're getting for sales, or whether you're Mr. Glukstad.  I'm sure there are a lot of people who'll rush right out and buy it.
