How do we justify increasing troops into Afghanistan?

I love how this issue is getting no media attention.

Obama and McCain are both for increasing troop deployments to Afghanistan.

So were leaving Iraq and sending more troops to Afghanistan?

I can see sending some special opps to taliban/al queda camps,

but to destroyed entire towns like Iraq would just be ridiculous!

What are your thoughts on moving troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, is it warranted?

  1. that is one thing people don't realize is that we do have a war going on in Afghanistan. Alot of people tend to think that afghanistan is not as bad as Iraq. Well it is and I think sending more troops over there would be a good thing. There were more troops that died in afghanistan last month then there were in Iraq. I think something needs to be done to show the taliban that they will not win.

  2. My question is how do we even know that Afghanistan is responsible for 9-11.  I believe it was Saudi Arabia.  Fighting in Afghanistan is probably why the Soviet Union is no more the Soviet Union.    Like Russia one day we might regret our war in Afghanistan.

  3. The troops are needed as the Taliban and AQ have regrouped and built strength back up from the safe havens in the Narothern Tribal Area of Pakistan.  Both candidates agree that this is what id needed, military commanders say it is needed nd the troops being withdrawn from Iraq are a logical place tostart.  The Marines have been drawn down in Iraq over the last few months and moved to Afghanistan primarily at the request of the Marine Corps.  Marines are primarily trained and think of themselves as assault troops and the "gaurd" type duty they were performing in Iraq was hurting morale so the commanders in Iraq requested they be replaced with Army troops and the Marines be sent to Afghanistan.  So you want to send Special Ops units into Pakistan (this is where most of the Taliban/AQ camps are) and have them start another fight there?  Part of the problem in the area is tribal loyalties-a large percent of the Afghan Taliban are the same tribe as the Pakistan tribal area and by custm they ust defend the people that are staying with them.  National loyalties or even agreeing with the people staying with you are secondary to tribal loyalty and customs.  The fighting in Afghanistan is in areas near the Pakistani border and the Taliban will continue to wage hit and run attacks, they have failed at trying to take and control towns-they run in take control and then run back across the border when Afghan or coalition forces move on them.; the few times they have stood and fought they have been beaten ad taken heavy casualities.  Since those are the tactics they are using an increase in mapower is necessary and warrented.

  4. All is fair in Love and War.

    We are not leaving Iraq.

Win at all cost to the other side.

More Troops make it safer for ALL Troops.

Life is a Bi t ch

Si Vic Pacem Para Bellum !

    Vet-USAF

  5. We justify it because the current troop strength is not enough to win the war.

If by destroying entire towns you mean Fallujah, there won't be any Fallujah like battles because, trust me I've been there, there are no Fallujah like places in Afghanistan.

Troops need to be moved to Afghanistan, whether from Iraq or from NATO allies, because there are not enough Soldiers there to maintain control over a land as big and as rugged as Afghanistan.

  6. So tell us, what whole towns in Iraq have been destroyed.  This type of rant makes me think you are intellectually challenged.  As for moving troops, of course it is warranted. If it wasn't, they wouldn't do it.
