  2. Hmm, that's a good question. I've heard scientists talk about making casts of dinosaurs' vocalizing chambers to see what kind of vibrations they would produce, but I don't know how much they've actually used that or how much of it is guesswork based on the sounds made by other species. Probably a little bit of both.

Well, for one group of dinosaurs...the duck-bills, scientist looked at the structure and shape of their crests and from this observation, they reconstruct the crest's shape in the form of pipes.  Once the pipes are fitted in the exact way as the crest's shape, the scientists could blow through it and see what type of sound it will create.  However it may not be exact since some soft tissue (which are not fossilized) may have also affected the sound the dinosaur makes.
