My friend has a pretty large basement in his house, and recently purchased Final Cut Express for his 2.0GHz Dual Core iMac, and we wanted to make a cheap (less than $1000) production studio. Together, my friends and I have two decent mini DV camcorders, and I have a 2.4GHz iMac and Final Cut Express as well. We want to do some chroma-keying, and some editing and publishing. What equipment will we need and do you have any recommendations where we can get everything? Thanks in advance!!!

  1. You have all the tools you need for editing and publishing with the computers and FC Express.

For chroma keying, you will want a greenscreen and plenty of lighting. You could try the DIY approach using either Chroma paint or something like this:

The paint is available through a search of Amazon for about $50 a can.

Lighting can be put together cheap using work lights from Home Depot for about $50, depending on how big an area you need to light.
